Freezer Space Available

What can I say. Whitetail = 1 Hunter = 0

This is the time to take inventory of the items at the bottom of my freezer. There are a couple of steaks and ground venison, received as a gift from my fellow hunters. Only 3 deer got culled from the herd in this year's hunt. Thanks to the spirit of giving, I'll at least get to taste venison this year.

The freezer has lots of space for the specials from the butcher shop or the local grocery chains. I've offered my freezer space but to no avail. I guess I'll have to plant a bigger garden next spring.

I enjoyed this year's hunt, although I haven't found a hunting territory to call my own yet. I have been searching for a new area for the past 10 years now, since my preferred hunting zone got the hack from the lumber Mongols. It seems that every hunting spot I find, other hunters like to claim for their own. There is one small area I keep hunting where I shot my last 8 point whitetail buck. I don't feel comfortable there as there are too many hunters for the size of the territory.

I hunted this spot anyway because it produces more whitetail signs. I had a chance to take a button buck but passed on it. I also saw does in the area. I got the scent of the tarsal glands from a whitetail buck on hot pursuit for one of the does I was watching. This buck stayed in the thicket with no chance of a visual, never less a shot.

So now, I'll retire to talk and write about other experiences and fun I have experienced over the years.

Congratulations to all that had a successful hunt. Success for some hunters is just going out, sharing moments with friends and family and enjoying the outdoors. Venison in the freezer is the bonus.

Play safe, Hunt hard!
